Viewers can take part right away. Using a variety of pens – in different colors but also of different nature like pencil, fountain pen, felt tip pen – helps to find a topic and write about it. After a set amount of time, Elena Schönsee reminds you to pick a different pen. „Changing your pen influences your thoughts“, she says. „A thick felt tip pen is different than a fine pencil and interacts differently with the paper“.
The online workshop is part of the exhibition shown by the KWS Art Lounge NEWCOMER together with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hannover, Faculty III, focus Experimental Design. However, it is not shown in the exhibition rooms in Tiedexer Straße, but – for the first time – digitally only. At www.kws.com/alles-bleibt-anders you can leaf virtually through artist’s book with titles “Loneliness”, “Chumminess”, “My Heart” or “We are going on a bear hunt”. The whole edition „alles bleibt anders“ was created during a field excursion to the Hallig Langeneß in the North Sea. An artist’s book is a moveable art object and always unique – filled with analog prints, collages and personal words. „Artists who create an artist’s book fills many rolls“, says professor Dorothee Weinlich: author, designer, editor and book binder. „A double page is like a stage on which the actor or content shows up and disappears again. Sometimes the picture dominates, sometimes the text. All this needs to be composed to obtain a rhythm.”
In the third workshop (from June 11), professor Dorothee Weinlich will show the technique of gelatine print that makes an artist’s book truly unique. „Let yourself be inspired by the books on display. Fill your own book with photographs, drawings, keepsakes and snippets. Be as creative as you like”, say the three workshop tutors as an invitation to take part.
In the first workshop, master book binder Vera Burmester shows step-by-step how you can bind a thin booklet or thicker book yourself with just a few tools and materials.
