A well-balanced crop rotation is the foundation for long-term productivity, not only for CONVISO^® SMART, but across all crops. Rotating between a diverse mixture of spring and winter crops will give you the possibility for:

1. Reduced weed pressure

Alternating between winter and spring crops, as well as broadleaved crops and cereals, will prevent that single weed species become too dominant (and problematic).

2. Rotating herbicide modes of action

With a variety of crops, it gets easier to change between different herbicide modes of action and introduce more non-ALS actives in the crop rotation. This is key for good resistance management.

A range of different crops can be grown after SMART sugarbeet, but it’s important to choose the correct one.

Which crops are suitable to grow in the rotation after CONVISO® SMART sugar beet?

After Crop failure due to frost or flooding in the same spring

SMART KWS sugarbeet

Corn (after ploughing)

Autumn Sowing

Winter Wheat

In the year after application in a normal crop rotation:

Spring wheat

Spring barley
Corn

Peas
Field beans
Sunflowers
Soybeans
Potatoes (waiting time 1 year *)
Spring oilseed rape (waiting time 1 year *
Mustard (as green manure)

Why is it important to choose the correct crop following CONVISO® SMART sugarbeet?

Always follow the recommendations in the Grower Manual or on the herbicide label!

Following crops that are not recommended might be sensitive to ALS-herbicides like CONVISO^®ONE. Three main factors can influence the impact on following crops:

1. Soil characteristics

Soil pH plays an important role for herbicide decomposition. A high soil pH can slow down chemical and microbial breakdown of ALS-herbicides like CONVISO® ONE. Additional factors reducing ALS-herbicide decomposition are high organic matter content and low rainfall.

2. Late Application

The later the application, the less time is left for decomposition of the herbicide before the new crop is sown.

3. Relative sensitivity of the following crop

Be aware that the crops have different threshold values for the herbicide to have an effect. Each crop is different in how sensitive it might react to residuals of previous herbicides.
