Protecting natural resources is a key element of our sustainability approach. This includes measures to address climate change and promote the responsible use of water. In addition, we contribute to biodiversity through the conservation and further development of genetic resources in crop plants. Genetic diversity is an essential foundation for enhancing the adaptability of crops to changing climatic and environmental conditions.
As a plant breeding company, our direct energy consumption mainly arises from seed drying, the operation of greenhouses and climate chambers, and the use of infrastructure and machinery. We therefore work to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency. KWS aims to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 63% by 2035 compared to the 2025/26 base year. In doing so, we align with recognized climate models that support limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
