As an innovative company, KWS is convinced of the potential of genome editing and would therefore like to take a socially accepted path to using these new plant breeding methods with the necessary degree of responsibility in research and breeding as well as in product development. The entire Board of KWS, including the Chair of the Board, Andreas J. Büchting, in addition to many other executives, took part in the event.
One of the most important results of the dialogue was the acknowledgement that “perception is
reality”: How consumers see and evaluate topics is a much more important criterion for social acceptance than a technical or objective explanation. This is why it is so important to keep an eye on different perspectives (scientific, regulatory, ethical and social) and to deal with them as an organization.
