Digital Tools at myKWS: The Latest Spring Package Supports Seeding
Einbeck, 02.04.2026
Determining the optimal sowing time and efficient monitoring germination and field emergence: myKWS spring package, featuring a soil temperature tool and a field emergence timer, provides farmers with the best possible support, during the critical period of sowing and early plant growth. Both tools have feature new functionalities and a fresh design and are available in both the app and a desktop version.
The proven soil temperature tool uses parameters at the field or location level such as: soil temperature, crop-specific temperature thresholds, and the precipitation intensity forecast for the coming days to determine the optimal sowing date. In the new version, the tool offers even better accuracy based on district-level or field location, once fields are created in myKWS. Additionally, expected precipitation and all sowing-relevant weather information are displayed alongside soil temperature and consolidated in one place, eliminating the need to switch between multiple tools and weather apps.
To simplify the monitoring of germination and field emergence, the Field Emergence Timer draws on local weather data as well as temperature sums from multi-year weather data (Growing Degree Days, GDD). This allows for an estimate of when approximately 50 percent of the sown plants will break through the soil surface. With fields stored in myKWS, the forecasts are also precisely tailored to each individual field. Information on topics such as delayed germination, diseases, pests, or bird damage, as well as waterlogging, soil crusting, or late frost, complements this service.
With its digital service platform myKWS, KWS supports farmers throughout the entire growing season – from soil preparation and sowing to monitoring and harvesting. The platform is available in approximately 30 countries and enables data-driven, site-specific decisions.
