Sunflowers are one of the most important oilseeds crops worldwide, and in some countries, especially in Europe, it is the main raw material for oil production. Due to global climate change, this crop will remain profitable for farmers in the coming years and will continue to be widely cultivated. In addition, sunflowers enrich farmers' crop rotation and ensure greater sustainability.

KWS initiated a sunflower breeding program in 2011 in Hungary. The main target is to develop new hybrids so that our farmers can continue to grow successfully in the future. We are using the most modern biotechnology tools to develop new hybrids and to make the best possible choices. The main selection criteria for hybrids include a high yield potential and high oil content, resistance to Downy mildew, broomrape and other diseases, early maturity, and adaptability for cultivation under different conditions.

Large internal trailing networks across Europe help us properly evaluate hybrids adaptability in different countries and subregions to offer the best possible hybrids for each farmer. KWS constantly invests not only in enlarging the number of locations, but also in the improvement of trials quality.

Therefore, we are delighted to present our new range of sunflower hybrids. Each hybrid has been thoroughly tested over several years to ensure that it meets the needs of farmers.

How and when we can check the yield of sunflower before harvesting?

We select hybrids according to indicators such as yield, herbicide resistance, maturity, drought resistance, stability and nectar content, as well as resistance to powdery mildew and mildew on sunflower. We now also use digital phenotyping, which allows for faster and more precise selection.
