Art Connects – 25 Years of Inspiration at KWS

For a quarter of a century, two worlds have met at the KWS Biotechnikum that seem unrelated at first glance: art and science. Yet it is precisely in their interplay that a space emerges for new perspectives, creative impulses, and encounters that go beyond everyday work.

It all began in 1999 with a simple idea: the bare walls of the newly constructed building should be enlivened. What followed was much more than a design measure. A place was created where art was not only exhibited but experienced. The exhibitions, curated by art-interested employees and external experts, showcased works by regional and international artists. Painting, photography, sculpture, and installation found their way to Einbeck – and into the minds and hearts of the staff.

A total of 66 exhibitions have been realized in the BiT. Many works were acquired and are now part of the ever-growing KWS art collection. Particularly formative were the personal encounters: conversations with artists, joint tours, spontaneous reflections in the hallway. Art became a source of inspiration – for new thoughts, for exchange, for connections.

The project also had an impact beyond the company’s boundaries. School classes, local initiatives, and art enthusiasts found an open place for encounters in the BiT. The exhibitions opened doors and made visible how art can foster understanding. Thus, “Art in the BiT” became a link between KWS and the public – driven by the belief that art does not exclude, but invites.

The retrospective

To mark the anniversary, KWS presented a retrospective on September 17, opened by Felix Büchting, Spokesperson of the Executive Board of KWS. The exhibition showcases works acquired from past exhibitions over the last 25 years, displayed in two KWS buildings: the Biotechnikum and the office and institute building. A commemorative book documents the history of the project with texts, images, and background information.

After the anniversary, a new chapter begins: the KWS Art Lounge in downtown Einbeck will become the new exhibition space for art at KWS. The new concept targets a broader audience and opens up with extended opening hours and a varied program. Alongside emerging young talents, established artistic positions will also be presented. Vernissages, finissages, and artist talks will regularly invite people to engage – open to all who seek inspiration. The KWS art collection will continue to grow and keep the permanent presentation on campus, in the Biotechnikum, and at other locations vibrant.

Art at KWS stands for curiosity, creativity, and openness – values that also shape research. It creates spaces for reflection and brings people together. In a world that is constantly changing, it remains a resonance space for new ideas.
