“The route between Einbeck Mitte (central Einbeck) and Salzderhelden that was reopened a year ago has been very well received. This offer has become even more attractive thanks to the additional stop near KWS and the PS Speicher museum’s truck and bus depot. We are happy we could advance this project to strengthen the regional infrastructure with KWS as a partner,” said Christian Gabriel, CEO of Ilmebahn GmbH.
More than two-thirds of the project costs totaling €350,000 were covered by the plant breeding and seed company KWS. Roughly 1,500 employees work at the company headquarters in Einbeck, which receives about 7,000 visitors each year. “Further improving the rail connection is important to us. Commuters from Göttingen, for example, can take the train with the 30-minute direct connection and now get off right next to the company campus,” explains Georg Folttmann, who, among his responsibilities, oversees construction management at KWS. “In turn, people traveling on KWS business can park their cars at the company campus and start their trip at the Otto-Hahn-Straße stop. That will noticeably alleviate the parking situation at the Salzderhelden train station. We want to thank everyone who participated in the project for the great teamwork.”
On Sunday, Dec. 15, the Deutsche Bahn hosted an Advent train between Herzberg and Einbeck Mitte (central Einbeck). To celebrate the grand opening of the new stop, the train paused at Otto-Hahn-Straße at 11:51 for a Christmas music program. You can find out more in this Deutsche Bahn press release.

The train route between Einbeck and Salzderhelden began operating again after more than 30 years as part of Lower Saxony’s revitalization campaign. The trains run hourly. During rush hour, there are additional options for continuous, nonstop routes to Göttingen. The regional hub of Göttingen is thereby accessible by rail from the middle of Einbeck without the need to change trains.
