KWS: Science you can touch

Einbeck, 01.12.2024

KWS lives its enthusiasm for Life Science every day. The leading company in plant breeding and seed production has been committed to sustainable agricultural solutions for almost 170 years. This is implemented worldwide in over 70 countries, while there is a clear commitment to the Einbeck location and its local roots.

Promote science and let it grow

For four years, KWS has been a sponsor of the state finals of Jugend forscht junior, bringing the competition to southern Lower Saxony. Since then, children and young people aged 9-14 have come to Einbeck annually to compete against each other in the PS.Speicher and to measure themselves in the seven subject areas of working world, biology, chemistry, geosciences and space sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics, or technology.

The goal is to strengthen young researchers in their enthusiasm and at the same time bring them closer to the region. During the three competition days, innovative companies from the region present themselves annually, alongside the two sponsor companies KWS and PS.Speicher, as well as other sponsors such as Sartorius and Symrise. Southern Lower Saxony is a strong life science region: Here, companies from red and green life sciences meet many others that are directly or indirectly connected with topics such as medicine, pharmaceuticals, but also agriculture and breeding.

A strong region

KWS has strongly advocated for joint location and skilled labor marketing. This is an important foundation for successful marketing of the region – not only for life science companies.

For example, clusters can be formed between companies and institutions, and partnerships can be strengthened. All this drives economic development in the region. Natural sciences are not a 'dry subject': every life science company in the region demonstrates this through the variety of training and projects. A mission that KWS continues to promote and support: From industrial clerks to plant technologists and dual study programs, the company offers many exciting training courses, at various locations and, depending on the training, even with stays abroad – because "talents need time and support to grow well."

KWS therefore promotes early enthusiasm for science with the "Children's University" and the MINTmachraum in Einbeck: Here, an innovative educational space is to be created where children and young people can playfully discover their skills in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology (STEM). "Making natural sciences tangible and bringing them to life in the region – that's how we grow together."
