80TH IIRB CONGRESS

The 80^th IIRB Congress takes place in Cambridge, UK, from July 07^th to 09^th, 2026.

The theme of the congress is "Advancing Sugar Beet in a Dynamic Environment". KWS is pleased to contribute to the scientific programme by presenting selected research and innovations alongside experts from across the sugarbeet industry.

Two new challenging diseases for sugarbeet

The two new sugarbeet diseases SBR ("Syndrome Basses Richesses"/syndrome of low sugar content) and RTD (Rubbery Taproot Disease) pose major challenges for sugarbeet growers and the sugar industry.

Virus Yellows

Virus Yellows is one of the most important diseases that affected sugarbeet in the early 70’s. With the introduction of seed treatment insecticides to control the aphids that transmit the disease, Virus Yellows lost its importance for many years.

Nowadays, a combination of mulptiple factors resulted in a coming back of the disease and reintroduced an unwelcomed threat to sugarbeet growers in many countries.
